Undercarriage

This area is important in determining safe operations of the trailer you are looking to build. Proper undercarriage design prolongs the useful life of the trailer and makes it function to your expectations for years to come.

Axles- These are mainly determined by the size of the trailer and the load you wish to carry. When you choose Length and Width we try to determine which axle setup is best for that trailer. We strictly use Dexter Torsion axles on our trailers and have had great results with all the combinations they offer. This is one of the most important factors in having a trailer that you feel pulls well. If the axles are too heavy for the trailer then the trailer will bounce and ride rough. On the same hand if they are too small they could fail and no one wants that. We listed below our most common sizes but keep in mind we can custom setup your axles to match your trailer and specific need.

  • 6000 lbs.- We Use these a lot on our showstar trailers mainly because it gives you a good 16" wheel with 8 hole lugs. Much easier to find replacements for these than 15"wheels and tires
  • 7000 lbs. - These come standard on the 22'-26' trailers.
  • 8000 lbs. - These axles are used mostly on our 26' plus Stierwalt and Lonestar type trailers.
  • 9000 lbs. - When we get trailers over 30' this option needs to be talked about and considered
  • 10,000 lbs. - Larger commercial use trailers that will mainly haul large loads will want the added safety of this axle package

Air Ride - Widely our most growing in popularity option we offer. It is a more expensive option then just standard axles but the ease of travel and added comfort to the livestock in our mind makes it worth it. Biggest misconception is that the truck pulling it has to have an air system. This air ride package is totally self-contained and simply runs off the 12v power your truck produces to run your lights. These systems have a small compressor mounted usually under the nose and the heavy duty air bags on the axles to provide a ride second to none. People also worry about if something happens to the air system what do I do? No need to worry about that because the trailer still has torsion axles so you can continue your trip until you reach a place to fix the air ride. This is definitely an option you should look at if your budget allows it.

Brakes - Many people think this is one of the most important features on the trailer and so do we. Because we see the importance of braking, it is standard that all wheels have brakes on them. There are several options when talking about braking but we will highlight the ones that are most popular on our trailers.

Electric Brakes- This is the standard braking option that all Cimarron's come with on all wheels.

Hydraulic Electric brakes - These brakes are used on the larger trailers with sizable loads that need extra stopping power.

Wheels- This is one of the hardest decisions someone has when they are choosing their new trailer. When we price a trailer to you a spare is always included with a matching wheel that is exact to the one on the trailer. There are many options out there but one has to be careful, some options are not setup properly for the trailer.

Steel Wheels- These are the standard wheels that come on all new trailers. They are silver Modular wheels and for many people they are very happy with them.

Simulators- Stainless Steel simulators are a easy and less expensive way to make a steel wheel look fancy without upgrading to Aluminum Wheels.

Tires- Very important in our opinion. We only use high quality tires and always use new tires on all of our trailers we sell.

Goodyear Marathon- This is the standard 10ply tire that will come on your trailer (16" tires and wheels). These tires have an excellent life span and are easily found across the nation if you need a replacement.

Goodyear G 14- These are a 16" tire that is basically a heavier duty version of the Goodyear Marathon. These tires are 14 ply and we use them on trailers people want to have the added security and load capacity of a 14ply

Hercules 17.5"- These tires are our main stay on the larger livestock and cattle trailers. They are a 16ply tire and have been one we have seen little to no problems out of. If you are building a bigger then 24’ cattle trailer we recommend looking at these as the primary option.
